60 Seconds with Imran Butt, Telephony Sales Manager

As a child, what was your dream job?

My dream job was to play professional cricket. As a child growing up, I used to watch my Dad play on the weekends and ended up developing a big interest in the sport. My highlight growing up was playing my first match with my Dad at the age of 11. We both opened the batting and put on a partnership of 109 runs from just 10 overs. I scored 97 and my Dad scored 10 not out at the other end. It’s not a game that he likes to talk about.

Do you have any secret talents?

I’m a keen cricketer and have played minor counties cricket for Berkshire. I stopped playing cricket for five years but in my first season three years ago, I hit 201 not out in a league match, hitting 15 sixes! So, I suppose my talent must be hitting sixes.

What is the best advice you have received?

You don’t always get what you want when you want. It will happen at the right time as long as you persevere and work hard.

"It's important to focus on your team and find out their strengths, as individuals, and feed them more of what they're good at, rather than solely focusing on development areas."

Who is your all-time hero, and why?

My all-time hero is my Mum because it wasn’t easy raising me and my four brothers!

What is the biggest misconception about your job?

The biggest misconception about my job is that it's purely about sales. It's important to focus on your team and find out their strengths, as individuals, and feed them more of what they're good at, rather than solely focusing on development areas. We have a really strong telephone team at Pepper and that is because we focus on recruiting the best people and work hard to ensure they can develop further, as people.

What do you like to do after work to unwind?

After work, most of my time is taken up by my two little boys but, other than that, I like to go to the gym and get a solid weights session in.
